Module: Clinical Anatomy of the Heart, Module 1: Gross anatomy

Module Description:
Audience: Suggested for tehnologists working in the Cath Lab, EP or Cardiac Ultrasound or any health care professionals who desired a detailed course on the anatomy of the heart.
Prerequisites: None
Skill Level: Intermediate
This aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the gross anatomy of the heart and pericardium. We should warn the prospective student that this module contains images of hearts in different stages of dissection. Emphasis is placed on the external and internal anatomy of the chambers of the heart. A detailed description of the semilunar and atrioventricular valves is included in this module. The components of the conduction system of the heart are also described.
At the end of the study of this module, the user should be able to:
A. Name the portions and components of the pericardium
B. Describe the borders and position of the heart
C. Describe the surfaces of the heart
D. Name the layers of the heart
E. Describe the semilunar and atrioventricular valves
F. Describe the internal anatomy of atria and ventricles
G. Name the components of the conduction system of the heart

About the author: Dr. Efrain Miranda is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Clinical Anatomy Associates Inc, specializing in Human Clinical Anatomy and Surgery. Dr. Miranda is Assistant Professor of Human Clinical Anatomy at the Cell Biology, Neuroanatomy and Anatomy Department of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is a volunteer faculty member for the Biology Department of the College of Mount Saint Joseph, Cincinnati, OH. Dr. Miranda is an Active Member of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists, and the Human Anatomy and Physiology Association (US). Dr. Miranda is an instructor of Human Neuroanatomy at the University of Chile College of Medicine. He has held several positions of increasing responsibility including Director of Marketing and member of the Management Board of Johnson & Johnson in Chile, and Associate Director of Medical Education at the Endo-Surgery Institute for the development of Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr. Miranda has written several chapters for Minimally Invasive Surgery books and has been invited to speak at international surgical meetings.
