Course Information

Course: Nuclear Medicine

Module: Cardiac Electrophysiology for Nuclear Medicine Technology

Module Description:
Audience:Nuclear Medicine Technologists
Prerequisites: None
This course was designed for the nuclear technologist as a comprehensive guide to dysrhythmias commonly manifested by imaging patients. The content begins with a brief overview of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and electrophysiology; continues with a description of leads, lead placements, and waveforms for analysis; and concludes with a description of essential ECG rhythms and ECG strips that describes the needed identification criterion. This activity may be available in multiple formats or from different sponsors. ARRT regulations state that an individual may not repeat a self-learning activity for credit if it was reported in the same or any subsequent biennium.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to
1. Describe the anatomical structures and functions of the heart.
2. Explore the process of electrical conduction in the heart.
3. Recall the properties of cardiac depolarization and repolarization.
4. Describe the relationship of each ECG waveform to the electrical events in the heart.
5. Apply correct waveform measurement, rate calculation, and analysis techniques for interpreting an ECG strip.
6. Describe correct lead placement.
7. Describe the origin and components of the sinus rhythms.
8. Identify the origin and characteristics of atrial rhythms.
