Module: NPPV: Across the Continuum of Care

Module Description: In the past decade, the use of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation as an alternative to intubation and conventional ventilation has become a standard of care. Noninvasive ventilation helps reduce the need for endotracheal intubations, decreases complication rates, and improves patient outcomes. This continuing education program, explores the current trends and the clinical criteria for noninvasive ventilation in acute and chronic respiratory failure.

• List at least four clinical advantages of NPPV
• Identify inclusion and exclusion criteria for appropriate patient selection
• List four keys to a successful NPPV program
• Describe the steps for implementing NPPV
• Discuss how to identify a successful NPPV trial.
