Course:
British Society of Echocardiography (BSE), College of Radiographers CPD Endorsed, Ultrasound
Module:
Assessment of LV Systolic Function with TDI, Strain and Strain Rate
Module Description:
Audience: All practitioners of ultrasound or anyone interested in learning about the assessment of LV systolic function with TDI, strain and strain rate.
Prerequisites: A basic understanding of ultrasound
The purpose of this tutorial is to introduce the learner to TDI, strain and strain rate. This tutorial presents the basic concepts and practical applications of these new echocardiographic techniques for the evaluation of LV systolic function. It is designed for learners who already possess knowledge and experience in echocardiography. The tutorial also includes a basic review of relevant aspects of cardiac physiology and a brief discussion of conventional assessment techniques for LV systolic function.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course the learner will be able to:
*Discuss normal and abnormal cardiac physiology on a basic level
*Explain the advantages and disadvantages of traditional echocardiographic methods for LV systolic function assessment
*Discuss key terms and principles associated with TDI, strain and strain rate
*Define normal measurement parameters for TDI, strain and strain rate quantification and perform measurements
*Describe clinical applications of TDI, strain and strain rate
